Responsibilities: This EH&S generalist position will be responsible for the environmental, health, and safety functions for the Rochester facility with dotted line assistance for 4 other locations. Will identify and assess occupational safety, health, and environmental risks that affecting employees. Recommends corrective action to mitigate risk and accident occurrence. Will design and implement the annual safety plan, promote a culture of safety, and develop and maintain positive working relationships with employees. Will direct all safety, health, and environmental activities as required by OSHA and EPA
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6-8 years experience as an EH&S generalist in manufacturing. Master’s degree preferred. Must have a proven background in leading improvements with high employee participation and recognition.

Summary: Under indirect supervision, oversees the implementation and administration of programs, protocols, and procedures to ensure the maintenance of the safety, health, and environment of the employees, contractors, visitors and the community. Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal occupational health, safety and environmental (HSE) laws, regulations, and guidelines, as well as with corporate health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Trains and advises the plant employees, contractors and visitors regarding HSE protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, to include the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as local fire regulations.
2. Prepares and submits various regulatory reports, including SARA, RCRA, air permits, RMP, PSM, BLS and SWPPP.
3. Provides support to plant management for the development of injury reduction initiatives based on principles of behavioral safety. Establishes business-specific metrics to define and measure desired behaviors.
4. Conducts regular routine inspections of buildings, facilities, and equipment for compliance with general and specific safety standards; reports non-compliance and/or hazardous conditions, and recommends remedial action as appropriate.
5. Develops and implements on-site environment, health, and safety protocols and procedures, in accordance with general corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
1. Conducts periodic air monitoring and qualitative assessments to estimate exposures to airborne substances. Completes the annual analysis of chemical exposures to meet corporate guidelines, i.e. TORIMAN.
2. Completes the annual Health and Environmental Audit for submittal to Branche HSE
3. Prepares the annual Environmental Checklist for submittal to the Delegation
4. Completes the annual Branche North America Health and Safety Self-Assessment questionnaire
5. Provides support to the business-specific Crisis Management plans
6. Conducts on-site investigations of accidents and incidents involving fire, hazardous materials, unsafe situations, and/or non-compliance issues; prepares reports and makes recommendations for procedural changes as necessary.
7. Inspects, evaluates, and oversees the maintenance and disposition of all hazardous materials used and stored on site; monitors usage of hazardous materials and makes recommendations as appropriate.
8. Monitors and inspects fire, safety, and environmental equipment and facilities for serviceability and compliance with established regulations, policies, and standards.
9. Develops and implements on-site safety, environment, and/or emergency management programs designed to respond to individual situations and to improve overall safety conditions.
10. Keeps current on federal, state, and local legislation, regulation changes, and changes to fire/safety codes and manuals; maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in area of specialty.
11. Develops and maintains detailed manual and/or automated records, to include locations and inspections of potentially hazardous areas and maintenance of HSE-related equipment
12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements: Technical certificate, or equivalent coursework or training in a directly related area with 3+ years of directly related experience.

In this position, you will:

Our ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s Degree required in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related field. New York State Code Enforcement Official or International Codes Council certification required. Fire Protection Specialist certification preferred. Valid driver’s license.
Required experience: At least 5 years of fire protection-related experience. Specific knowledge of fire detection, fire alarm and fire suppression systems to provide expertise in reviewing plans, designs, codes, and fire protection systems. Experience managing fire safety and emergency response programs. Proven track record of developing and implementing fire safety programs, and completing work on time. Cornell University has an immediate full-time opening for an outstanding health physicist / radiological safety specialist in the Environmental Health and Safety Department. The position supports the University research and teaching operations related to use of radioactive materials (RAM) under a broad scope license and radiation producing equipment (RPE). The use of radiation spans the range of biological, molecular biology, plant and animal science research with radio-labeled chemicals; analytical, medical, and veterinary use of xray equipment and accelerators; experimentation in high energy particle and accelerator physics; and radiology and nuclear medicine services for animals. In addition, the use of non-ionizing radiation includes class 1 to class 4 lasers, high field strength superconducting magnets, and RF/microwave sources.
With general oversight from the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), the incumbent will manage assigned
program areas within the overall University radiation safety program. The primary program areas are:
provide expertise in radiological hazard assessment and control, training for radioactive material (RAM) and
radiation producing equipment (RPE) users, coordinate and perform radiation safety inspections, and
manage the University’s dosimetry and airborne effluent monitoring programs. Assist in ensuring that
regulatory and University requirements are met and all radiation sources are utilized safely, develop
